Ch-ch-ch-ch-Changes

So! First blog post – well, the first one I’ve published….I must’ve started and deleted and restarted this one entry 20 times. It’s exactly two months until I leave for India, something that still feels distant despite my visa problems and multiple vaccinations.

I am moving from my home in Mansfield and my school in Corio to the Mahindra United World College of India in Pune. MUWCI is one of fifteen UWCs worldwide (Canada, USA, Costa Rica, Wales, Norway, Netherlands, Italy, Bosnia & Herzegovina, Swaziland, India, Singapore, Hong Kong, China, Germany and Armenia). They promote intercultural understanding and the development of genuine concern for others, founded on shared life experiences,

to use education as a force to unite people, nations and cultures for peace and a sustainable future.” [taken from the movement’s ‘mission statement’].

It is an incredible opportunity and after such a long application process it still feels like a dream of mine.

My visa application has been a bit of a learning experience! Unlike most other countries I must provide another official photo as the requirement were a little different than most!
Visa photo

  • Must be 2″ x 2″
  • The face must be 1″ to 3 1/8″
  • The eye must be from 1 1/8″ to 1 3/8″ from the base
  • The eye must be 1 3/8″ from the side
  • Face must cover 70 – 80% of the photograph

As this is not a standard “passport” photograph it took a bit of research to find somewhere to take it!

My whole application was just returned as I didn’t attach the original official acceptance letter from the school (I don’t have one…). So, hopefully all goes well and I will be stepping off a plane in Mumbai by the 22nd of August!!

If you are interested in UWC and its values, you can visit its website here: uwc.org

Two of my Australian co-years, Becca and Josh, are keeping a blog and a vlog respectively. You can see Becca’s blog (from UWC Adriatic of Italy) here: unitedworldbecca.tumblr.com  . and Josh’s vlog (from UWC Mostar of Bosnia and Herzegovina) here: joshcarp.com

Thank you for reading this rather rambling first post – it will get better I promise!

Much love,

Anna

  1. Hey Anna, Your blog is great and David Bowie is a legend! SO envious of you going to India, MUWCI is top of my list. Where were you interviewed and did you have a preference which country you went to? Good luck !
